TIPS TO STAY SAFE ON THE WATER:

Wear it!  We require that you wear a lifejacket when out on the kayak or stand-up paddleboard.  Jackets are provided with your rental or you are welcome to bring your own US Coast Guard Approved vest.  With Paddleboard rentals you will recieve a leash as part of the equipment.  The use of a leash is important because if you fall off the board, the board will stay close and not sail away from you, especially in windy conditions.

Know Your Limits:  Be honest with yourself and if you don't feel confident in a given set of conditions (such as wind), return to shore.  You should be capable of swimming as well as getting back onto the board or kayak.  If you are likely to fall into the water, stay near shore so that you can safely swim back if you can't reboard the vessel.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings and Practice Defensive Paddling:  Never assume that power boaters can see you.  Avoid high-traffic areas whenever possible and proceed with caution when you can't avoid them.

Keep an Eye on the Sky:  Know the weather conditions and scan the horizon for dark clouds. Stay aware of changing temperatures and wind directions, which often precede a thunderstorm.

Dress in Proper Attire:  In the summer months, bathing suits, boardshorts, rash guards and light, moisture wicking materials are best when you are out on the water.  Protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays by wearing sunscreen, hats and clothing with SPF.  Footwear such as sturdy sandals or water shoes can be worn on the equipment. You can also go barefoot.

Stay Hydrated:  Bring water with you whenever possible and light snacks if you plan to be on the water for a long time.
